Product information "Ultraschallschneehöhensensor"

The detection of snow depth is an important parameter to characterize the snowpack on the ground. Your education is subject to large spatial and temporal variations. Influence factors are inter alia the influence of other weather activity (air temperature, wind, radiation ...), terrain and spatial rainfall in the area.

On hand of the reflected signals and the required duration of the ultrasonic signals of the USH-8 sensor calculates the current snow height. The air temperature exerts an enormous influence on the duration of the ultrasonic pulse. Therefore, the snow depth sensor has an integrated temperature compensation. This refers to the influence of air temperature on the duration of the ultrasonic signals in the calculation of snow depth with a. The calculation is performed in the sensor so that the output signal supplies the already processed Snow. This optimum measurement results can be obtained with an accuracy of 0.1% (FS).

The USH-8 Sensor automatically changes during its operation between measurement and "standby" mode. The data logger can not have the sensor on or off and therefore a highly energy-saving operation is achieved. For measured value transfer of the USH-8 Sensor from the data logger is activated by means of "transfer pin". For the measurement operation one day only 0.5 Ah are needed at every minute measurement. Between the measuring phase, the sensor automatically switches to standby mode

The selection of the measuring point should be as flat as possible, sheltered and safe from avalanches. Steep slopes, hollows, break lines or large rocks close to the measuring point should be avoided. A strong tendency of the snow field involves the risk that the snow can slide around and thus the measuring result is falsified. To ensure proper measurement, the sensor must be aligned parallel to the ground. Slight inclination of the ground, by a correct alignment of the sensor, by means of the supplied bracket, compensated. Furthermore, the expected snow level at the measurement site in advance should be estimated in order to ensure the appropriate mounting height of the sensor.

The correct selection and placement of the measuring point is very important.

The sensor is calibrated (temperature compensation) and preconfigured. In addition to the custom settings (port, protocol, ...) only the zero point on the ground must be configured after installation. This is done easily and comfortably via the Windows HyperTerminal. The optimum height of the sensor is 3 m or more. The maximum permitted mounting height of 10 m. It must be noted that the diameter of the measurement field is more than 3 m in this case. In order not to disturb the measurement field, two distances must be observed during station construction. Firstly, this is the distance between the sensor and the field, on the other hand, the distance between sensor and pole / mast foundation. When the disturbance of the measurement field can thus lead to unwanted reflections and to a distortion of the measured values. Even objects in the vicinity of the measuring field (for example, break lines, buildings ...) create snowdrifts and thus unwanted measurement field disturbances.

The material of the measured field surface should be representative

Easy integration into existing weather stations analogue (0/4 - 20 mA signal) and a digital interface (RS 232) can be integrated into an existing station. The pole mount included also enables easy installation.
