Capacitive Soil Moisture Sensor

 The Soil Moisture Sensor CMP 2 is an inexpensive sensor for determining the volumetric water content and temperature in the soil and in bulk materials. Due to the low price, these sensors are particularly suitable for applications requiring a large number of sensors. For example, the equipment of large measuring networks or profiles with high spatial resolution. The temperature detection directly on the sensor makes additional external temperature sensors unnecessary. This capacitive soil moisture sensor uses a, compared to other capacitive sensors, high output frequency of 75 MHz. This makes it less sensitive to the influence of the conductivity of the soil and can thus be used even under adverse conditions such as fertilizers, pollutants or salt water influence. The two narrow antennas provide a largely trouble-free installation without additional tools. The sensor housing of polyethylene (alternatively stainless steel) is dustproof and waterproof (IP 68) and has a high chemical and mechanical resistance. The sensor is thus largely maintenance-free. If the sensor antennas bent by mechanical stress or corroded by chemical exposure, they can be independently replaced easily by new antennas. The sensor can be connected to data loggers. The analog output signal of 0-1 V is also compatible with most commercially available data loggers, so that existing logger can be used. To make the CMP-2 sensors also provide a useful addition to existing monitoring networks.
